Summary
As well as appearing in a number of successful 'solo' projects, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett were jointly responsible for one of the most popular and successful sketch/variety programmes on UK television.
A consistent formula prevailed throughout the programme's long run. The opening 'announcers' slot ("In a packed programme tonight"), a Ronnie Barker monologue/sketch, a rambling anecdote from Ronnie Corbett (seated in his chair), various sketches featuring both of the stars, a spoof serial, a musical number and the closing 'newsreader' slot ("It's goodnight from me ... and it's goodnight from him").
Some of Britain's most successful TV comedy writers produced material for The Two Ronnies. David Nobbs, David Renwick, Michael Palin, John Cleese and John Sullivan were all contributors. Ronnie Barker himself wrote many sketches, using the pseudonym "Gerald Wiley".
