Summary

Stephen Daker (Peter Davison) is a young, idealistic doctor who starts a new job with the Student Health Service at Lowlands University.

He finds himself working alongside eccentric Dr Jock McCannon (Graham Crowden), self-obsessed Dr Bob Buzzard (David Troughton) and scheming lesbian, Dr Rose Marie (Barbara Flynn).

In the first series, Stephen becomes involved with policewoman Lyn Turtle (Amanda Hillwood), who's doing research at the university.

After Lyn leaves and returns to her police duties, Stephen begins a relationship with Grete Grotowska (Joanna Kanska).

Lowlands University proves to be an increasingly depressing, bewildering place for an idealistic young doctor.

In spite of the fact that Stephen is eventually promoted to head of the medical centre, it gradually becomes clear that there's no long term future for him at the university.
