Summary

Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais) is a struggling actor who has been reduced to working as an "extra" in various film and TV productions.

His well-meaning but dippy friend Maggie Jacobs (Ashley Jensen) does her best to help him find work, but causes problems more often than not.

Andy's agent, Darren Lamb (Stephen Merchant) is rather dim and next to useless, finding Andy inappropriate work or messing up existing arrangements.

Eventually, Andy sacks Darren and hires a new "hot shot" agent who helps him to find fame and fortune.

Meanwhile, Maggie finds herself living on the breadline, working as a cleaner to make ends meet.
