Summary
Martha (Peggy Mount) and her sister Mildred (Avice Landon) have both had three husbands. Both are now widows.
The sisters have settled down in a semi-detached house near London, hoping for a peaceful retirement.
Martha is something of a battleaxe, never afraid to give vent to her feelings or to show her displeasure to anyone who "crosses" her.
Mildred is much more timid and tends to be rather a romantic soul. She tends to get into embarrassing situations, especially when she has any sort of dealings with men.
