Tommy Butler (Jimmy Jewel) is a 70-year-old widower who leaves his home in the north of England and goes to live with his daughter Vera (June Barry) and her husband Brian (Larry Martyn) in a high-rise block 'down south'.
Tommy becomes great friends with a 12-year-old cockney lad, Charlie Harris (Charlie Hawkins) who's also new to the area.
