Summary
James Shelley (Hwyel Bennett) is intelligent, articulate, highly educated ... and unemployed.
He lives with his girl friend, Fran (Belinda Sinclair), in a small bedsit owned by Mrs Hawkins (Josephine Tewson).
Later, Shelley marries Fran and she gives birth to a daughter, Emma.
Subsequently despairing of Shelley's laziness and lack of maturity, Fran throws him out. He goes off to teach English in the USA, returning to England five years later.
