Summary
Shorty Mepstead (David Jason) is a shy young man who lives with his mother (Pat Heywood) and his brother Randolph (Peter Armitage).
Randolph is very outgoing, with the gift of the gab and a knack for attracting women. One of the women he attracts is Kathleen Peake (Cheryl Hall).
Shorty falls in love with Kathleen, in spite of the fact that she prefers Randolph.
Eventually, Shorty and Kathleen 'get it together' and plan to get married.
In the end, however, Kath leaves Shorty 'standing at the altar'.
