Monsieur Victor (Vic Oliver) is the conductor of the Palm Court Orchestra in the luxurious Imperial Hotel, London.
He recounts stories about the guests who stay at the hotel to a journalist who is "ghost writing" his autobiography.
Other staff at the hotel include the manager, Mr Hay (Brian Oulton), the assistant manager, Mr Griffiths (Leslie Heritage) and the head receptionist, Mr Pettigrew (Tom Gill).
