Summary

In 1946, Ron Archer (Bernard Cribbins) buys a derelict seaside pier for five shillings. He plans to "do it up" and turn it into a commercial success.

Ron's sister is married to bank manager Richard Talbot (Richard Wilson), so Ron is hoping for a bank loan to finance restoration work.
