Summary
Sir Giles Lynchwood (George Cole) is a power-hungry Member of Parliament who is married to the formidable Lady Maud (Geraldine James).
Sir Giles plots to get a motorway built through the grounds of Handyman Hall, the ancestral home of Lady Maud's family. He sees this as a way of persuading her to move away from the family seat, to live somewhere more "civilised". He would also like to get his hands on the compensation which would be available from the government once the road building programme was agreed.
Lady Maud is vehemently opposed to the idea of a motorway being built. She enlists the help of Blott (David Suchet), an ex-POW of Italian extraction who proves to be an expert in guerrilla warfare.
